OpenAccess Captions | Conexu Foundation

iPad-based telephone trial for people who are deaf and blind

The nation first, purpose-built mobile captioning app was launched at the start fo Deafblind Awareness Week 2016 as an extension of Conexu Foundation's world-first caption-to-braille trial.

The app was developed by Conexu and, with the support of Able Australia, is currently being offered at trial stage, to people who are Deafblind.

OpenAccess Captions turns any iPad or iPhone into an accessible phone, for people who are deaf and blind, or have low vision.

The app connects callers via a live captioner, who provides real time captions which are then converted into braille.

  • Real time captioning, more accurate than Siri and other speech-to-text options
  • Uses a commonly available, mainstream device
  • Make calls when out and about on this mobile option
