Conexu wins $5k grant to help overcome communication barriers in sport for deaf athletes and children

The dream to overcome communication barriers for deaf kids in sport has come true thanks to a $5,000 Sunsuper Dreams for a Better World grant. Conexu, alongside Deaf Sports Australia, entered the July 'sports and education' round of the Sunsuper Dreams for a Better World competition, which aims to help Australians do something positive in the community and help realise their dream for a better world by offering $5,000 grants each month to the dream with the most votes.

Sunsuper’s Dreams for a better world initiative is all about doing something positive for the community in a really meaningful way and giving individuals, groups and organisations the opportunity to help realise a dream for a better world. www.dreamsforabetterworld.com.au

The grant will allow Conexu and Deaf Sports Australia to further develop a vocabulary of Auslan sports-signs to the app in order to address barriers in communication in sports between coaches, players and parents who are deaf and hearing.

The format has four rounds a year, each with a different theme or category. The judges will select three finalists each quarter, who will each receive a $5,000 grant. The public will then vote to determine the quarterly winner, and the finalist with the most public votes will receive another $5,000 grant for their cause.

The quarterly winners will then be judged for additional grants of up to $25,000, to be announced at the Sunsuper Dreams for a Better World Grand Final Awards Night. For more information, visit www.dreamsforabetterworld.com.au or www.openaccessfacetoface.com.au
