A key anchor attraction of the Hunter, Maitland Gaol has a vibrant history spanning more than 150 years. After housing some of Australia's most hardened and notorious criminals, Maitland Gaol closed as a Correctional Institution in 1998.
Maitland Gaol provides experiences for singles, groups and schools that are tailored to both children and adults. There are many fascinating tours available. Be led around by an ex-inmate, join a historic tour to learn more about the Gaol's past or simply take the time to do it yourself with a self-guided tour. Self-guided audio tours are available seven days a week and guided tour times and dates are varied.
Access the self-guided tour with Auslan and captions, using the OpenAccess Tours app, downloadable to your own device or available on site if you do not have a smartphone.
